Background

Hi – I’m Damian Nevins, a Level 4 UKA Athletics coach with 15 years coaching experience of children to adults of all abilities. I’ve been competing for 28 years at distances ranging from 800 metres to half-marathon. Currently a top ranked v40 UK athlete, I have personal bests of 70:17 over the half marathon, 2hrs 32 mins for the marathon, 31:03 for 10000 metres and 14:45 for 5000 metres and most recently breaking 10 minutes (9:59) for 3000 metres steeplechase. I also have a strong knowledge of running beyond training, racing, and coaching with my academic background in BSc Sport Sciences and MSc Sport and Exercise Physiology.

Having achieved country standard as a young athlete, I progressed to being a competitive club athlete achieving my first set of track personal bests alongside strong road and cross-country performances in the 2008-09 season. However this was just before yet another injury and it was another 7 years before I found my best form again in 2017 as a veteran 35 athlete. This led to my best ever year in 2018 with the highlight of winning a race at the ‘Night of the 10000ms’ and built the foundation for subsequent years of relatively unbroken training.

This seven year period and much of my running as an adult was fraught with training errors and subsequent injuries, lack of guidance and unclear competitive goals. Anyone coming on board my coaching will receive the wisdom learnt from these many errors to provide an individualised training plan focused on a competitive goal but built to enable consistent training and minimise the risk of injury.
